Check List for Your Operation

It is essential to check off the following list prior to your operation.

  • Check with your Health Fund to ensure you are covered for your procedure and with Mr Watson’s rooms to ensure that you understand the fees applicable.
  • Ensure that if you are taking Aspirin or an anti-coagulation medication such as Warfarin or non-steroidal medications, Vitamin E, Garlic tablets, Ginko Biloba, Ginseng or Horseradish, that these medications are stopped one week prior to your operation.
  • Most surgery is carried out as a day case, therefore please arrange for someone to take you home and who can be with you for a 24 hour period after your operation.
  • Do not eat or drink for 12 hours prior to your operation. If you do so then your operation will likely be cancelled. To have a general anaesthetic you need to fast, that is absolutely no food or drink for this 12 hour period prior to your anaesthetic. If you do eat or drink, then there is a danger of vomiting and your stomach contents entering your lungs. This can result in severe infection of the lungs and even death.
  • In sinus surgery, please bring your CT scans with you to the operation. It is essential that these be available, if these are not present for your operation, then it will be cancelled.
  • If Mr Watson has given you a script for medications to be used prior to the operation, that is the week leading up to the procedure, then please use them. Failure to do so may result in the operation being cancelled.
  • Please take all post operative medications as directed.
  • If after your operation you have any concerns out of office hours, please contact either Mr Watson or the hospital at which you had your operation. The hospital can then contact Mr Watson and your questions can be answered.
